Local UC Berkeley Community Offers Talk on Urban Housing Development in Santa Barbara

Dr. Gregory Morrow, an expert in the field of sustainable urban development from UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design, will be in Santa Barbara Wednesday, Oct. 23, to talk about economic vitality and addressing the local housing crisis while preserving Santa Barbara’s urban character.

The free event is at 5:30 p.m. at Impact Hub, 1117 State St. Comments from community leaders and a Q&A panel featuring Senior Assistant to the City Administrator Nina Johnson, Historic Landmarks Commissioner Anthony Grumbine, Planning Commissioner John Campanella, and developer Peter Lewis will be held following Morrow’s presentation.

Organized by the UC Berkeley Community of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties, the program is to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the formation of UC Berkeley’s architectural program into the Center of Environmental Design.

An internationally acclaimed thought leader, Morrow is currently the Executive Director of the college’s Real Estate Development and Design program. With a Ph.D. in urban planning, he will highlight his talk with case studies in Southern California. “Economic vitality and housing development within Santa Barbara has been a major discussion topic in recent years,” says UC Berkeley group leader Ohan Arakelian. “Our purpose is to provide solutions that stem from academic and applied experiences within Southern California.”
